Lawns
Make sure to give your lawn another feeding.  This the when your lawn will grow deep roots that help it get through next summer. You still have time seed or overseed, fertilize and lime your lawn due to the extended heat.  Use a starter fertilizer that is high phosphorus, which aids in seedling germination and encourages strong root development.
TREES & SHRUBS
This is a great time to plant trees and shrubs.  Planting now will ensure that your plants will encourage new root development over the winter months.  Plant trees and shrubs that provide fall color such as burning bush, camellia, viburnum, crape myrtles, nandina, many varieties of maples, pyracantha and Encore Azaleas.
Now that the leaves are falling, do you need privacy in your yard?  Here are some good screening plants to help you out.  Ligustrum, Leyland Cypress, Hollies, Arborvitea, Bayberry, and Cryptomeria.
If you are looking for bigger trees, Cooke's can install them for you with a one year warranty.

Do not prune Azaleas, rhododendrons and other spring blooming shrubs because they have already set buds for next years blooms.  If you need to prune flowering shrubs, just remember that you will sacrifice your blooms for next season.
Fertilize your plant with a good slow release fertilizer.

Perennials/grasses/Roses
Are you are thinking about cutting back your grasses?  Don't.  Ornamental grasses add unusual winter interest with curling foliage and the varieties of plumes.  Time to transplant or divide your peonies if you want to multiply your plants.  Fasten any loose vines such as climbing Roses, clematis, honeysuckle, jasmine, and clematis to prevent breaking in the winter winds.

Houseplants
Time to bring houseplants indoors.  If needed, treat them with Bonide Houseplant Systemic, Garden Safe Houseplant & Garden spray, or Espoma Earth-Tone insect control.  Need to feed those Houseplants with a slow release fertilizer such as Osmocote.  Now is the time to re-pot to a bigger size. Cookes stocks a full line of pots including terra cotta, concrete in many shapes, sizes and colors.  Remember your houseplants are starting to go dormant so cut back on you watering schedule.

Force the buds of Christmas Catus by placing them in a cool room and 12- 13 hours of darkness daily.

Pot up Hyacinths, Tulips, Paper White Narcissus, and Amaryllis to bloom in time for the Holidays.

Poinsettias and Holiday plants will be arriving in Mid November.
